No, never seen anything like that Mick though on Tim Mathers pre war car, the rear seat backrest is actually hinged at the top so you can put long items in from the boot.

I also noticed what looks like a small winding mechanism under the edge of the front seat – wonder if this would be to move the seat backwards and forwards.

It could well have come from a minibus.
