Davy
I have a pdf file of the various points etc. Unable to post pdf here….is there any way to PM you?
I have 1953 Light 15 and changed to electronic points….
Managed to snip and save as a jpg… this diagram appeared in the Tech articles. Can send the pdf if you wish…?
Regarding the cap…have you tried the distributor doctor?

Sorry for the dis-jointed replies!
David,
I have this in my “used stock”:
It is not Lucas branded and I can’t actually read what it does say, maybe “CI” – so possibly an aftermarket equivalent?
I also have some new old stock points but shall need to access them over the weekend.
Meanwhile, let me know if the cap may be of interest – I can take more pictures if you want.

I don’t know if you’ve looked there already but we have a few Lucas catalogues listing part numbers in the Technical Library.

Yes Bernie it definitely is Lucas if you zoom in to the inside of Cap Lucas is Stamped with a serial/part number 400316
The leads come out at right angles to the Cap and it’s very low frofile.
Davy
Davy,
I think we are at cross-purposes.
I do not deny your cap is definitely a Lucas part but I am not sure what the one I have is. All I know is does look very similar to yours with the leads coming out in a horizontal cluster from under a disc cover retained by two screws .
I shall give it a clean and look more closely tomorrow – when the beer has worn off!

The diagram at the bottom Shows a diagram of a Distributor Cap to replace Lucas 400316 which is the serial number stamped on my Lucas Cap. My email address is davidselfridge52@icloud.com
Bernie the Cap in your Photo looks like the correct one, could your check with magnifying glass inside for Lucas and serial number or take a photo and zoom into the 2 small flat areas adjacent to where leads protrude for the Stamped Number
Davy
Davy,
Not sure if you have the same.. cap has serial number 418893. Distributor type..DKYH4A. This is from a 1939 Slough Light 12.

Your Cap is different than the one on my car, maybe because your car is a year younger. The Cap on my Distributor is lower profile and the leads come from the side, not the top.
Will post if I find more information from Chris @ TOC Spares
Davy
This may help identify the distributor and cap associated with it:

Davey,
I can confirm the Cap I have is a period aftermarket equivalent to a Lucas Parts. It was made by CI, a reputable manufacturer of automotive electrical components back in the 50s and 60s and some of their parts still appear on e-bay from time to time.
There are no numbers inside the cap. The CI logo appears top centre and there are three digits – probably 223, possibly 228 on one of the side lugs.
The following link is to more pictures of the cap. They are large files so you cn download and zoom in if you wish.

If you think it is worth a try I shall be happy to post it to you.
I regret my stock of points is all French so no help there I am afraid.

Hi Bernie
Thanks For the email, the Cap shown in your photos certainly looks like the defective one on my Traction. I think it’s worth posting to me to try, it should fit my Distributor.
If you could post to my address enclosing the price for item, postage and your postal address, I will be to happy to return a cheque. You can obtain my address from the club or send me an email. davidselfridge52@icloud.com
Thanks For Help
Regards, Davy
