Removing cylinder head

1. Clamping down wet liners.

About to remove the cylinder head on my slough 1911cc four cylinder engine . I want to clamp down the wet liners once the head is removed to lock them in place. I understand this can be done by bolting large washers down to hold the wet liners in place. Was thinking of using 50mm dia washers , as the liners project slightly above the block should I place small dia spacers below the 50mm wide washer to make up for the gap so the large washers lay flat on the liner rim.

The standoff is very low, 0.010″ max, so no additional spacers/washers are necessary.

Once the liners are firmly clamped the crank can be rotated to examine the piston tops and bores and, if required, the whole engine may be turned upside down for sump examimation/removal.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Maximum permissible liner protrusion is 0.10mm (.004″), so less than half of what I suggested above.</p>
Sorry – lesson no.1 in double-checking and not just relying on memory.
