Recently I’ve become aware of a converted Normale to Roadster coming up for sale.

On behalf of the owner Ive be been asked to estimate a value for this quite unusual motor car.

I knew the car until around ten years ago and prepared it for MOT, since then it’s been off the road in storage and will need complete recommissioning.

I remember the car being converted to a decent standard, but that was nearly twenty years ago.

      Any comments are appreciated.

      Thanks

This car https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/26494/lot/19/ which MdL flagged up recently is probably a good benchmark. It is based on a pre-war car,  which probably helped the price.

          Patrick,

Many thanks for the link, the Belgian car is a far better example and being pre war more desirable.

Im going to assess the car tomorrow morning and will post some photos if possible, pretty sure the donor saloon was a ‘49 vintage.

          Cheers,

          John

Here’s another ad you might consider https://www.german-car.net/en/cars/18060 , though the write up is questionable in several respects.

                Thanks Patrick,

often wonder about some of these ‘specials’ ,,,who buys them and how are they valued?

Not many genuine Roadsters were built and originals are very collectable so it is not surprising to me that a cheaper option will appeal to many.

There must always have been enough would-be owners out there or Peacock would never have bothered setting up a business producing such “re-creations” so long ago and others have since followed suit.

As for the price… it must surely primarily depend on how much the new owner wants one and how good the conversion is.  Personally, I would not be interested but, I can understand some people will be perfectly content to have a repro for a lot lower price than an original.

                  B…..

                    Bernie ,

                    Thanks for your input.

When this was being converted it was a couple of ‘handy’  Scots doing it in their spare time using only photos as a reference and no know of the professional outfits such as Peacocks.

Knowing the car and having accompanied it to the 2002 ICCR in the USA with an 11BL I am now thinking of buying it myself.

To me it’s more of a novelty and probably only worth around 5-6 thousand ( the 11 d engine must be worth a couple of thousand pounds alone)

Its advertised elsewhere and if no takers I’ll see if the current owners will accept a bid from me.

It’s got to be worth at least the value of a Normale. Clearly the interior appearance could be improved without too much effort. The engine bay looks very tidy. The value to you is a different question.
