I look on the club spares list and see that the 34PBIC carb is for domed pistons and the 32 is for standard. I have a 32 PBIC on my Light 15 which has domed pistons. Is it going to make much difference in how it runs? Is it worth spending the money for it?

Thanks Den. The carb I have is a fairly new reproduction. No, not going to change it.

I have tried both a 32 and a 34 with little, if any, noticeable difference on my Perfo engined 11BL.

I also tried a ‘repro’ 32 but found that after 3,000 kms the butterfly spindle was already showing signs of wear, so had the original Solex rebuilt with the butterfly spindle rebushed and the car does run better.

Some say that the repro carbs are fine, others don’t like them, so maybe the quality is variable, though the mileage a car is doing and therefore the use of the throttle is a variable I doubt anyone has taken into account.

The repros on both of my cars have given very little trouble, except recently the 11B was running poorly, sounding like one or more of the carb jets are plugged. I rebuilt the fuel pump (AC) several years ago with a kit from before ethanol in petrol so I think the rubber of the diaphragm might be breaking down. It’s winter right now so it will have to wait until a nice spring day, sun is out, beer at hand. Yes, a pleasant way to spend a day.
