Ok, i’ve read and seen how easy it is to remove one from the “Big” boys but on mine which is an 11BL 1952, the starter will not come out in the same way to the extent we tried to dismantle it in situ.  Whats the best way to get it out please guys?

Remove the manifold assembly. It’s a lot of work but I don’t see any other way. One of the Traction’s design shortcomings.

Sorry tobelate to the party …..

It is a 2-man job .   Disconnect the rear engine mounting and throttle linkage then using a long piece of stout wood under the manifold, pivoted on a block on the jambon, it is possible to raise the right side of the engine enough to remove the starter.

Hi. I did this recently on my 1952 11BL. I removed the rear engine bolts from inside the car and then using a hydraulic jack and pieces of wood under the sump, I lifted the engine very slightly. That gave enough clearance under the manifold to get the motor out.  I have now fitted a modern alternative (from wosp) which is much smaller and hopefully will be more reliable.

              Cheers

<p style=”text-align: left;”>A possible disadvantage of jacking under the sump is additional compression of the sump gasket which can then lead to leaks unless the sump bolts are all retightened once the load is removed.</p>
The engine stand shown in the manual is designed so that the weight is taken on the sump bolt heads and not the sump itself, for the same reason.

A length of wood touching the bolt heads from a jack underneath should work well.
