Hans,
Thank you for your support for this Forum section.
Like posts here on the Forum, most FP articles are written by enthusiasts with their own experiences, views and opinions. That is one of the reasons FP has to print a disclaimer inside the front cover.
We all have our own ideas as to how we think vehicles should be restored, maintained and driven so there will always be people who disagree with the way any one of us does it. Personally, I am quite used to criticism of my “obsession with originality” but, fortunately, “I ‘ave the skin of the thick rhinoceros” and such comments are “like the water to the rear of the duck”, to twice (mis)quote my dear old Froggy mum.
Of course, I would never let my notions compromise safety but my basic premise is, if the car still runs as well today as it did when it was new, I am happy. That means I see no compelling advantage in discarding things like the points and condenser to fit an electronic ignition system. I believe my argument in this particular case is further strengthened by the fact that, whilst I consider it prudent to carry a spare set of points, rotor arm and condenser, I have been told that many of those that do have an electronic distributor also chose to carry a complete standard distributor “just in case”. I rest my case …….
End of rant – now sit back and wait for the flack!
Meanwhile, I hope your post in the “For Sale” section generates plenty of worthwhile interest.
