All done and dusted – the only point to fix is the front left brake not working, but the other 3 work perfectly πŸ˜€

This is also the first EVER ContrΓ΄le Technique this car has ever had (other than getting the paperwork when I got him) as the test was not obligatory until 1992.

      Before the test πŸ˜•

      And he passed πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Next ContrΓ΄le Technique is in 2020 – every 5 years for a vehicle de collection πŸ˜†

This is how I found him in November 2013 and started to work on him in March 2014 so one year to get him back on the road 😯

Just driving around a little now.

Not really getting much above 85 kph – the engine does need to run in but what should I be expecting speedwise.

Also – coolant is leaking a little. Is this the overflow of the radiator…. need to investigate further but cannot see it coming from the water pump now.

If 85 kph is as fast as it will go then check the timing again. Mine was slightly out and once ‘tweaked’ it improved quite a bit. Normales (I have read) are supposedly not as fast as BL’s due to the additional weight but I would have thought they would do more than 85 kph.

I had my speedo knocking on 120 kph on Sunday (only for a short time) whether it’s accurate, well…… but I can cruise comfortably at 100 kph

              Maybe you overfilled the radiator?

It will find it’s own level not far above the core inlets in the header tank, but again it could be a sign of overheating due to the timing being to far advanced.

I will take a look at the timing – it was just a quick “by ear” adjustment but I do get rumblings out of the exhaust when I take my foot off the accelerator, not back firing, just lots of burble (OK in a rally car but not this limousine πŸ˜† )

But – my front left brake failed during my MOT – car passed as the guy knows I will go back and fix it and as it is all new it just needs some fettling.

well, I took off the hub and found one of the seals on the slave cylinder had popped and subsequent pours brake fluid on the pads. I cleaned it all up and reset the slave cylinder and checked it all out. It didn’t pop again. But on my short trip this morning, I tried it again and it seems to have gone again (car pulling to the right)

These are brand new seals and there is not much that can go wrong with a slave cylinder… is there ❓ So I wonder why it is popping ❓

I will get another refurb kit and rebuild it but does the Traction have this problem – I am thinking because it might be the closest to the Master Cylinder so under the most pressure πŸ˜•

Replacement seal kits are a known weakness in the aftermarket parts arena. Mine came from John Gillard http://www.traction-avant.co.uk/Arches/arches_1.htm in London who has his own made in the UK

                    Re CTA.

I have 3 Tractions 2 of which I use for weddings. I have spent thousands on spares with the club a s Chris can confirm and the club uses CTA as there main supplier. However since CTA has been taken over by Parts Industries the quality and fit of a some of their spares has dropped dramatically as also has their standard of packing – I have even received a fuel tank with a bent filler neck.

It must be bad when the picture on my 6 volt battery I got today is near enough the same as what is on the drive…… no more for sure 😯

Nice collection, just needs a DS to complete it now 😈

That is a car I would love, but the 2 door versions I like are just a bit out of my price range.

Just spent all morning fitting LED rear light units to a friends 1948 11BL – a job I thought would take 20 mins. But these TU Club lights were not exactly plug and play.

All works now, after an hour of searching for a fault when asking him to push the brakes…… turn on the bloody ignition first…… 😈

                          Seems I am the traction specialist now πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

Not to be ‘sexist’ (as per another thread) about it, but that’s one of the jobs my wife doesn’t object to doing for me πŸ˜†

First time on the motorway yesterday. A little worried but all went fine. Very hilly route and the car kept the same speed all the way, very pleased.

Got very hot though as I have not yet put any insulation on the bulkhead – this is going to be a must. Do others have a very hot handbrake?

Longer run next week into Toulouse and 2 days with the Traction Universelle Club at Midi Retro Auto.
